With this web site I am trying to introduce Roger to all the people who do not know who he is but have probably seen his face or heard his voice in something at some time. Roger Allam is one of those actors who seems to be in a lot of things but no-one really seems to know who he is. He joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1981 and has been with them, on and off, for many seasons. He was the original (and in my opinion the best) Javert in Les Misérables, first creating the role for the RSC at The Barbican back in 1984 and then transferring with it to The Palace Theatre in Shaftesbury Avenue for the whole of 1985. He has played many and varied roles with the RSC, has appeared in several TV series and has made several films. It is his gorgeous voice who graces the original cast recording of Les Misérables and he has been in many radio plays for the BBC. He has made several appearances in The West End and in recent years most of his work has been with The National Theatre Company where he finally won the Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actor. In February 2002 he finally won the much deserved Olivier Award for Best Actor for his performance as Terri Dennis in Privates on Parade.
Roger is a very nice man who I have met on several occasions after standing outside a stage door (normally in the freezing cold), waiting to congratulate him on another excellent performance and to ask for his autograph. Sometimes he is chatty and sometimes he is in a hurry to get away, but he is always very gracious and appreciative of his audience.
The two pictures on this page were taken outside the Comedy Theatre after a performance of What The Night Is For, which I went to see with my good friend Marilyn who is also a big fan. Between us, we have seen just about everything that Roger has ever been in and are constantly striving to find out what he will be doing next.
Roger has now given me permission to make this the official fan site for which I am very grateful and I hope that it will help me to make the information on here more accurate and up-to-date.
If you have any information or pictures that you think I could use then please email me.
Roger has a role in this short movie made by Alison Sterling of Ignition Films. You can watch a short trailer of this movie HERE.
